Voting for elections closed (technically) on 14 October 2023. As at today's day (20 November 2023) after special votes counted and National's slim majority with Act has been eroded, bringing in New Zealand First as a third party to any potential government. And where are we today? Still no government, still no knowing what negotiations are going on on your behalf.
Should these negotiations be open and transparent or is that too much for politicians to do. Do they serve the people or believe the people are there to do what they think best? If it's the latter, they should not be in that position. We need politicians (or as we like to call them, statespeople) who are there to serve the best interests of the people and to represent the people. If any politician in the country can whole-heartedly say they represent the people, they are blatantly disillusioned as they have no way of effectively communicating with all the people in their constituency to get their feedback. A fatal flaw in "democracy" as it stands.
We need a change to eliminate back-room negotiations, lack of transparency, and leaving the People in the dark.
